Summer is by Jaz Poco Goldun Blue and out of the mare Rugged Ashley, by Rugged Lark. She's the perfect cross between her sire and dam, exhibiting some of the best characteristics of each of them. Her sire was a short, stout, thick stallion with a ton of power and presence, but he could use some help in height, length of neck and general front end cleanliness, all of which Rugged Ashley gave. Summer is not only a beauty to behold, but she's beautiful in her brain, too. As a youngster she spent about a year in training with our friend Adam Thiessen (Petrofka View) in Saskatchewan. When she came home here we used her on the ranch and one of our kids rode her a fair bit, showcasing her quiet, biddable mind. Many old time breeders I've met say to keep at least two fillies out of your greatest mares, and Summer is one of those. I'll bet she ends up being the mother to two or three fillies that are kept for the next generation in our program, too.
